How do I join the beta?
Open this TestFlight link on your iPhone or iPad and follow the prompts to install Apple's TestFlight app, then the beta. It's free — no App Store purchase involved. Apple limits how many testers a beta can hold, so the link may stop accepting new testers from time to time.
A beta build stopped working / expired
Apple expires every TestFlight build after 90 days regardless of the app. Open TestFlight and check whether a newer build is available for Heartland Expedition; if not, a new one is on the way.
Will my beta progress carry over to the release?
Not guaranteed. A beta can include save-format changes that make old expeditions incompatible, and TestFlight and the App Store are separate installs on Apple's side. Treat beta progress as something that might not survive to launch.
How do I report a bug during the beta?
Take a screenshot inside TestFlight (not the regular iOS screenshot) and it will offer to attach your feedback directly — that reaches the developer with useful device details automatically. E-mail works too; see below.
How do I save my game?
You don't have to. The expedition saves itself automatically as you play. Use Continue in the main menu to pick up where you left off, or Load Expedition to choose an earlier run.
Is my progress synced between devices?
No. Saves live only on the device you played on — the game has no online connection. If you delete the app, its saves are deleted with it. An iCloud device backup may include them, but there is no in-game sync between devices.
How do I change the language?
In the main menu, tap the Language button to switch between English and German. The game follows your device language the first time you start it.
I'm just starting out — what should I do first?
Buy a field spade from the trader in Cairo; your starting money always covers it. You need it for digs. The waypoint markers then guide you out of the city to your first site. The Field Manual in the main menu explains the rest.
My explorer died. Is everything lost?
Each expedition has one life, so a run ends when your health reaches zero — that is intended. Later explorers recover part of your notebooks, so your earlier work still counts for something. Keep an eye on health and food, and rest before it gets tight.
Which devices are supported?
iPhone and iPad. The game runs entirely offline, so no internet connection is needed at any point.
Are there ads or pay-to-win purchases?
No ads and no tracking, and nothing on sale that gives you an advantage — no energy timers, no boosts, no shortcuts you can buy. Anything purchasable only ever unlocks content, such as the full game or a possible later expansion. Nothing you can buy makes the expedition easier. See the privacy policy.
